NLGI grades measure grease consistency/softness. NLGI 2 is peanut butter-like, ideal for centralized automatic lubrication systems and fast bearings. NLGI 3 is stiffer, providing superior retention in vibrating environments and vertical shafts.
We strongly discourage mixing different grease thickeners, as incompatible soap structures can cause grease softening, oil bleed, and bearing failure. Always purge old grease before applying new grease.
Grease hardening occurs when oil separates (bleeds out) due to excessive temperature, overgreasing, or high centrifugal shear. Wintex Thermo-Max has very low oil bleed (< 3%) to prevent hardening.
